THE LORD IS GOOD
Do you know how to build a house? Two things are required: a builder, and materials. House materials are bricks, sand, cement, plaster, wood, glass, pipes, electricity wires, steel, plaster and paint. And one very important ingredient: WATER. All used at different levels in the house-building.
These are no good without a builder to put it all together.
Consider the blind man in John 9. The disciples were focussed on who had done wrong, this man or his parents that he was born blind. But Jesus focussed on what was really "a work in progress". The man had been born, grown up, had everything (all the 'materials') except his sight. The job of making a man of God wasn't finished yet. And He was the 'builder' of this man.
So He tells His disciples that God has a purpose in this man being blind. And then proceeds to carry on with the job of 'building'. What 'materials' does He use? Dust (a 'cement' of mud) and spit (which is actually water). And from these He makes new eyeballs for the man (v.6).
One more ingredient is required: OBEDIENCE. The man is told to go to the Pool of Siloam and wash (v.7). (Here is water yet again!)
The result is a man who testifies that God has healed him, and he becomes a follower of the Lord (vv.25, 38).
We are all 'works in progress'. We are not finished yet. There is some work to do, whether at 'foundation level', 'first floor', 'second floor', or 'roof' (i.e., different times in our lives). The Master Builder is still working on us.
One day we will be completed. Meanwhile...
